越後・丹⽣⼭藩の鮭役⼈の⼦、間垣⼩四郎（神⽊隆之介）は、お⼈よし過ぎて商売上⼿とは⾔えないが、皆に愛され平和に暮らしていた。そんなある⽇、⼤勢の役⼈たちが家にやってくる。驚く⼩四郎に⽗・作兵衛（⼩⽇向⽂世）が衝撃の事実を告げる。なんと彼は、＜松平＞⼩四郎――徳川家康の⾎を引く、丹⽣⼭藩主の跡継ぎだったのだ！さらに、実の⽗・⼀狐斎（佐藤浩市）は⼩四郎に国を任せ、さっさと隠居。庶⺠から殿様へと突然、幸運を⼿にしたかのように⾒えた…のもつかの間、実は丹⽣⼭藩は25万両（およそ100億円）もの借⾦を抱えるワケあり藩！困り果てる⼩四郎に、⼀狐斎は「⼤名倒産」を命じる。返済⽇に藩の倒産を宣⾔し、借⾦を踏み倒せば皆助かるというのだ。しかし・・・実は⼀狐斎は、息⼦に全ての責任を押し付け、切腹させるつもりだった！⼩四郎に残された道は、100億返済か切腹のみ！⼈⽣最⼤のトラブルに巻き込まれた若きプリンス、⼀体どうする――！？

【解説】
浅田次郎の同名時代小説を映画化。前田哲監督がメガホンを取り、稲葉一広との共同脚本により江戸時代の痛快な人間模様を描き出す。
越後・丹生山藩で鮭を売る役人の息子として育った小四郎（神木隆之介）は、ある時、徳川家康の血を引く丹生山藩主の跡継ぎだと知らされる。実父であり先代藩主の一狐斎（佐藤浩市）は、藩を救う策として“藩の計画倒産”を小四郎に命じるが、じつはすべての責任を押し付け、小四郎を切腹させようとしていた…。

Koshiro Matsudaira lives in Tanjousan Bun in Echigo as a commoner and surrounded by people that love him, including his father Sakubei, who works for the Tanjousan Bun. One day, many officials working for Tanjousan Bun come to Koshiro’s house and Sakubei tells his son the shocking truth about his birth. Koshiro learns that he is the son of Daimyo Ikkosai of the Tanjousan Bun. Even more shocking to Koshiro, is that Daimyo Ikkosai has suddenly handed over his feudal lord position to Koshiro and has gone into retirement. Koshiro thinks that he has come across good fortune, but he soon learns that the Tanjousan Bun has a huge debt that needs to be payed off soon.

[ Story ]
Asada Jiro’s same-named historical novel adapted for the silver screen. Director Maeda Tetsu co-wrote the script with Inaba Kazuhiro to capture the thrills of humanity during the Edo period.
Koshiro (Kamiki Ryunosuke) grew up as the son of a salmon dealer in the Nibuyama Domain of Echigo, but he finds out that he is actually heir to the domain and descendant of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. Ex-domain lord Ikkosai (Sato Koichi) is his real father and orders Kojiro to strategically declare bankruptcy to save the domain, but in fact he wants to shove all the blame on his son and make him commit harakiri suicide.
