【解説】
南北朝～室町期に活躍した能楽師・犬王の実話をもとにした小説「平家物語 犬王の巻」を、湯浅政明監督が映像化したミュージカル・アニメーション。『ピンポン THE ANIMATION』でも湯浅監督とタッグを組んだ漫画家・松本大洋がキャラクター原案を担当。
異形として生まれた犬王は、琵琶法師の少年・友魚と出会う。分かちがたい友情で結ばれたふたりは、互いの才能を開花させながらヒット曲を連発し、スターダムにのし上がっていく。

Yuasa Masaaki directs this musical animated film adaptation of the novel ‘Tale of Heike: Inu-Oh’ which is based on the true story of Noh master Inu-Oh who performed between the Nanboku-cho Period and Muromachi Era. Manga artist Matsumoto Taiyo, who worked with Yuasa on “Ping Pong The Animation”, created the character designs.
Born with an unusual appearance, Inu-Oh encounters a young biwa (lute) minstrel by the name of Tomona. The two become inseparable friends. As they mutually foster one another’s talents, they release successive hit songs and gradually rise to stardom.
