【解説】
戦後の復興最中の銀座で女給として生きる女たちを成瀬巳喜男が哀愁を込めて描いた抒情詩的作品。「女」と「母」の両面を田中絹代が見事に演じている。
昔の愛人・藤村との息子を抱え、銀座で女給をしている雪子。ある日、昔の仲間・静江から上京する資産家の息子・京助の案内を頼まれる。観測所に勤める京助の星の話などを語る朴訥な様子に、雪子は忘れていた少女時代を思い出してロマンチックな気持ちになり、京助と結婚して田舎へ住むことを想像する。

[ Story ]
Lyrical film from Naruse Mikio that poignantly portrays women working as hostesses in Ginza still recovering from the war. Tanaka Kiniyo performs brilliantly as both “woman” and “mother.”
Yukiko works as a hostess in Ginza while raising the son she had with her old flame Fujimura. One day her old friend Shizue asks her to accompany Kyosuke, the son of a tycoon on a visit to Tokyo. Kyosuke works at an observatory, and his quiet way of talking about the stars brings back forgotten memories of childhood for Yukiko. Her thoughts turn toward romance as she imagines marrying Kyosuke and moving to the countryside.
